Marvell Expanding SSD Controller Deployments
With OEMs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 26, 2013 at 2:40 pmMarvell Technology Group Ltd. announced that it’s silicon and software-defined solutions portfolio continues to accelerate the connected lifestyle from consumer to enterprise.
Its end-to-end storage, networking, computing, mobility and connectivity solutions continues to be the driving force of connecting every aspect of the digital lifestyle, whether on the go, at work or at home. In particular, Marvell is ushering in the next generation of storage technologies as OEMs are deploying its SSD controller solutions across multiple platforms from enterprise and high performance mobile computing to smart phones and tablets.
“High-performance, reliable, robust and secure storage is at the heart of today’s ‘Connected Lifestyle’ for business and consumers, expanding from cloud infrastructures, networking and data centers to smart homes and mobile devices,” said Weili Dai, president and co-founder, Marvell. “I’m very proud of our leadership in storage technologies since the founding of our company, and now extending it to the fast-growing SSD market. Combining it with our innovative capabilities in networking, computing, mobility and connectivity and our differentiated software platforms, such as the Kinoma platform, we are empowering the high-tech industry by delivering complete end-to-end smart solutions to our global customers and partners, and we are deeply committed to making the world more connected and enabling better lives for all.”
The industry is moving to the high-performance, low-power and cost-effective silicon solutions that Marvell is pioneering and the market is set to benefit in the growing SSD sector. New PCIe and 6Gb SATA SSD controllers are in mass production and shipping to global tier-one OEMs, positioning Marvell as the frontrunner in the growing SSD controller market.
Supporting SATA target or PCIe end point, SSD controllers feature an advanced architecture for data flow handling and NAND flash management and are ideal solution for the development of high-performance SSD systems in applications from mobile to enterprise, including slim ultrabooks, M.2 form factors, custom form factors in low-power applications, value enterprise applications, and cost-effective caching solutions. SSDs across the board are quickly migrating to the PCIe interface, which is expected to gain market share in 2014 with the introduction of NVM Express, SCSI Express and advanced power management technologies.
The mobile and client markets continue to demand SSDs in higher performance, smaller form factor, low power consumption, advanced power management and with improved NAND flash media handling. Marvell’s in-house controller technologies with ARM processors, evolving IO interfaces such as eMMC (Embedded Multi Media Card) and UFS (Universal Flash Storage), and NAND flash error correction capability including LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) are designed to facilitate SSD market growth, fulfilling the need for the capability and expansion of storage.
