The DS214+ provides performance and business features to help SMBs centralize backup and share files. The DS214se is a budget-friendly NAS server that allows beginners to explore the possibilities of Synology NAS.

Synology presents the DS214+ and the DS214se to bring tremendous opportunities respectively for business and home users,” said Darren Lin, Synology’s product manager.

Powered by a 1.33GHz dual-core CPU, the DS214+ outperforms its predecessor by 89% faster at 208MB/s read and 153 MB/s write speeds with link aggregation enabled, boosting business productivity.

With 1GB of RAM, twice the size of its predecessor, and the built-in floating point unit, it exhibits a gain in multi-tasking performance. To simplify HDD installation and ensure reliability, it comes with an external enhancement of front mount hot-swappable tool-less lockable drive bays and dual GbE ports with failover support. It features two USB 3.0 ports for data transmission and one eSATA port as an external backup option.

The DS214se, the special edition of DiskStation, comes at a price tag lowest among DiskStation product lines. But is no slouch as it delivers read speeds at 102MB/s and offers several multimedia applications. It features web assistant and setup wizard to make setup and management more intuitive. Designed with energy efficiency in mind, it consumes 3.59W in hibernation mode, and 19.14W in operation.

Both run on DSM 4.3, an OS that provides a host of applications to bring productivity at work and multimedia experience. The company was honored with 2013 PCMag Business Choice Award and received the high rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
