Konica Minolta to Withdraw From Glass Substrates
For HDDs
By Jean Jacques Maleval | November 8, 2013 at 3:18 pmCommenting its financial results for 2Q13 ended September 30, 3013, Konica Minolta, Inc. stated it takes the “decision to withdraw from the glass substrates for HDDs business … orders of glass substrates for HDDs did not recover owing to deterioration in the notebook PC market caused predominantly by the advent of tablet PCs, with difficult conditions persisting.”
According to analyst firm Trendfocus, the Japanese manufacturer owns 4.7% of the global rigid disk substrate market in 3CQ13, the other ones being Asahi Glass, Fuji Electric, HGST, Hoya Glass, Kaifa, Seagate, Showa Denko, Tokyo Kohan and WD.
