Seven10 Releases Storfirst EAS 4.5, Federated File System for Hybrid Cloud Deployments

Supporting HP, Dell and Savvis clouds

At their annual StorFirst Partner Showcase, Seven10 Software, LLC announced StorFirst EAS federated unstructured file system.

Enterprise applications in healthcare, finance, government and education continue to create petabytes of unstructured content, driving up both the cost and complexity associated with managing the content sprawl stored across different hardware solutions. Using the 4.5 release to manage both the legacy data/platform migrations and management of storage, organizations can automate the process of updating their IT environments while investing in modern storage architectures for existing and future application deployments.

This version will offer features including:

  • An access design for Unix clients with StorFirst’s NFS v3 Server Presentation Layer
  • Cloud offering with support for:
  • HP’s Cloud OpenStack,
  • Dell Cloud Clinical Archive
  • Savvis Cloud Storage
  • Encryption in-transit and at-rest support for NAS, CAS, object, cloud, tape and VTL
  • Migration capabilities to ensure transition to new storage, including:
  • Audits using a refined data integrity hashing algorithm
  • StorFast parallel synchs, that boost migration capabilities upwards of 10TB/day
  • Windows 2012 Server support
  • Policy-based automated storage tiering

There has been significant discussions regarding the progression of software defined storage and what it actually means to the end-user,” said Bobby Moulton, president and CEO, Seven10. “The problem with a lot of innovation is that we tend to design with little regard for the past. With Seven10’s new release of StorFirst we are aiming to make the transition to new storage platforms and software defined storage models completely seamless. As corporations adopt new storage solutions, Seven10 will be there with our own innovative migration and file system management capabilities to ensure that the move from old to new happens gracefully and without disruption. The end of rip-and-replace updates is here.

Terri McClure, senior analyst, ESG, said: “To achieve true agility, IT organizations need to be unshackled from the confines imposed upon them by their storage systems. They need to be able to make changes to the storage layer without impacting applications, data protection, or data access. Instead of managing storage, they need to manage information. That requires an information management layer, and that is just what Seven10 offers with StorFirst EAS.

It is available through the company’s network of OEMs, resellers, distributors, ISVs, and hardware partners.
