Dell Adding Compellent FS8600 NAS and 1U 10/40GbE Switches

NAS can support 2PB in single namespace.

Dell Inc. announced the availability of two additions to its enterprise portfolio.

The Dell Networking S6000 series switches, which help support enterprise workflow demands, and the Dell Compellent FS8600 NASe with next generation software.

This year to date, the company has introduced a number of new solutions including the addition of the PowerEdge VRTX to its Active Infrastructure family of converged solutions. It has also enhanced its Compellent flash-optimized solutions, which now offer a 100% flash storage solution at a price comparable to a 15K spinning disk storage array. These innovations change the economics of the data centre.

The Networking S Series S6000 is the latest addition to Dell’s networking portfolio – a part of Dell’s business which has just seen 10 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth.

The S6000 is a 1U 10/40GbE switching platform for virtualized data centres. A fixed form factor design, the S6000 doubles the density and throughput while consuming up to 50% less power than previous generation’s top-of-rack switches. Built-in virtualization and automation features help customers scale larger virtual deployments in a smaller physical footprint, and helps solve the challenge of bridging virtualized and non-virtualized aspects of the infrastructure.

The Compellent FS8600 NAS solution with its Fluid File System version 3 (FluidFS v3) begins shipping to customers now.

Delivering performance, scale-out file storage that integrates automated tiering, the FS8600 and FluidFS v3 can support 2PB in a single namespace. Performance-intense file workloads also can be better accommodated through enterprise file storage, featuring improved performance at one-third of the cost of the market leader.

As a primary storage solution with policy-driven, variable block data reduction, the NAS uses de-duplication and compression so that redundant data can be more efficiently stored.
