Synology

The introduction of DS214 continues Synology’s dedication to create intuitive and efficient storage solutions to satisfy the demands of our beloved users,” said Chad Chiang, product manager, Synology.

It is built to deliver multi-tasking experience at best price/performance ratio. Powered by a dual core 1.066 GHz CPU and 512 MB DDR3 memory, it outperforms its predecessor and delivers an average read and write speed of 111MB/s and 105MB/s respectively under RAID-1 configuration in a Windows environment.

With the built-in Floating-Point Unit which enhances the capability of the main CPU, It’s advantageous in speeding up thumbnail processing, enhancing photo viewing at different resolutions. With an encryption engine, it also offloads the encryption calculation task away from the main CPU, helping improve file transfer speeds. It’s equipped with two USB 3.0 ports that offer 10 times faster file transfer rates than USB 2.0 for efficient data transfer to external HDDs.

Designed with safety and convenience in mind, the NAS contains the tool-less HDD trays, allowing users to fixate 3.5″ HDDs without a screwdriver. Front mount hot-swappable HDDs are available for HDD replacement and maintenance.

The DS214 runs on DSM 4.3, the only NAS OS being honored Best Choice Award and Media’s Choice Award at Computex 2013, to provide features to boost user-productivity and simplify their tasks, all on a user interface optimized for multitasking.
