Bridgeworks Launches OEM Solution Myelin

Data acceleration engine

Bridgeworks Ltd, in data transport and connectivity, announces the release of its Myelin data acceleration engine.

The new technology enables OEMs to improve the performance of their customers’ data transfers and other big data related functions over networks and through the cloud.

Myelin addresses the requirements of increasingly critical bandwidth-hungry functions, optimising remote data replication and large data transfers to make them up to 95% more efficient and less costly.

According to Infopro [2013 Storage Outlook – Storage Wave 17], enterprise storage capacity has more than doubled in the past two years, and IDC [The Digital Universe Decade – Are You Ready? May 2010] predicts data volumes to multiply 44 times by 2020. This is due largely to the enormous growth of data created by the digitalisation of content and the increasing use of connected devices, the majority of which is transferred by TCP/IP designed more than 36 years ago.

Nick Sundby, director, storage consulting, IDC, commented: “Moving data quickly across WAN links is a ubiquitous task that has a major impact on the performance of distributed infrastructure. With fresh thinking on data movement protocols, Bridgeworks aims to bring about a step-change in performance that has already been proven in strenuous production environments.”

Bridgeworks’ CEO, David Trossell, said: “For many businesses with multiple locations, data transfer is a necessary evil that is often blighted by unacceptable latency and by spiralling costs of maintaining the necessary investment in high bandwidth connections.”

He adds: “We fully believe that, by implementing Myelin, OEMs can help ease the unrelenting pressure faced by their customers in improving network performance, helping them to increase efficiency and cut costs by ensuring that data is moving quickly and securely across the enterprise.”

The Myelin core uses artificial intelligence to automatically adjust the flow of data across the network in response to changing network conditions and latency. Using Bridgeworks’ patented technology, Myelin integrates with an OEM’s existing product to improve network utilisation, increasing transmission speeds while maintaining the quality and security of the data being transferred.

Protocol and data agnostic, and typically less than 20MB in size, Myelin’s low memory and CPU usage make it efficient. In a recent CVS user test case, Myelin embedded within SANSlide achieved a coast to coast performance using less CPU and memory than that of a tablet or smartphone. These low size and usage requirements mean that the technology will also deliver enhanced user experience and improved performance throughout the BYOD space.
