Emulex Gen 5 FC HBAs Qualified by Fusion-io

Emulex Corporation announced that its LightPulse Gen 5 FC (16GFC) HBAs are qualified for use in Fusion-io, Inc.‘s ION Data Accelerator storage products.

LightPulse Gen 5 FC HBAs were also integrated in the solution showcased at Oracle OpenWorld.

When leveraged in target mode with T10 Protection Information (PI), they enable high level of performance for backend storage connectivity. The ION Data Accelerator delivers shared storage performance for enterprise applications and clusters using industry standard server platforms and Fusion ioMemory. As part of the Fusion-io solution,  Gen 5 HBAs enable customers with application acceleration and storage QoS. In addition, the two companies deliver end-to-end T10 PI support for Oracle Database and other applications.

LightPulse Gen 5 FC HBAs support features
for server initiator and storage target modes:

• Performance: Emulex Gen 5 FC technology is the fastest, with more than 1.2 million IO/s on a single port, which is seven times faster than current HBAs being offered by Emulex’s nearest competitor. It is a complement for ION Data Accelerator solutions, which are designed to meet the growing performance needs for applications by increasing response time, lowering latency and reducing bottlenecks.
• Data protection with high performance offload: Gen 5 FC technology supports the T10 PI standard, providing enhanced data protection against silent data corruption as data traverses the network from the OS all the way to shared storage. In addition, Emulex is the exclusive provider of high performance, hardware offload of data integrity checks for the ION Data Accelerator.
• I/O Bandwidth with PCIe 3.0 Support: Gen 5 technology supports PCIe 3.0, which provides a faster I/O bus, more PCIe lanes and increased I/O bandwidth, enabling the technology to provide performance for applications, such as virtualization and database management systems, by matching the performance capabilities of server platforms based on the new Xeon processor E5-2600 V2 product family.
