Came from EMC, Data Domain, Schlumberger and IBM.

Pure Storage, Inc. announced the appointment of Cortez Smith as country manager for Singapore and ASEAN.

Based in Singapore, he will be responsible for sourcing top-tier channel and strategic partners, growing Pure’s ASEAN offices and delivering the benefits of all-flash storage arrays to customers.

In August this year, Pure Storage secured a $150 million Series E funding round with institutional investors – the single largest private funding in the history of the enterprise storage industry bringing the company’s total capital raise to $245 million and putting it on track for a future IPO.

This landmark financing comes on the heels of a string of recent successes for Pure Storage,” said Michael Cornwell, VP, AsiaPac and Japan. “Those successes, largely in execution around customer adoption and support, provide a great platform from which to spring into the ASEAN market. We recognize that success in ASEAN is also about having the right people – Cortez brings the strategic thinking, tenacious drive and pioneering vision that our customers need as they look to drive material business benefits.”

Since his recent appointment, Singapore-based Cortez has seen interest from customers: “As confidence in flash memory as a storage media for enterprises has grown, interest in flash-based storage technologies is at an all-time high. Now, more businesses understand how all-flash arrays give them business advantages that enable them to outperform competitors. For example, by leveraging all-flash arrays, businesses can take large and complex workloads from weeks to days while paying the same per gigabyte as they would for mechanical disk storage.”

Driven by its geographic, economic, and technological advantages, Singapore has quickly become the region’s dominant IT hub. Underpinned by the local government’s Intelligent Nation 2015 roadmap to achieve economic and social benefits through innovative use of information communication technologies, the Singapore data center industry has thrived over the past two years, attracting some established brands to host their data centers here.

Based in Singapore, Cortez is charged with building Pure Storage’s business in the growing markets of ASEAN. In his role, he is responsible for building the local office infrastructure, while also working with top-tier channel and strategic partners to deliver the benefits of all-flash storage arrays to customers.

Pure Storage,Cortez Smith Cortez Smith has spent almost two decades in the IT industry, with the last ten specifically focused on storage infrastructure. Prior to joining Pure Storage, Cortez held various customer facing and management roles in organizations such as EMC, Data Domain, Schlumberger and IBM. In these roles, he was responsible for creating and managing multi-million dollar revenue streams through the deployment of programs that enabled market education, expansion and development.

As many companies in the region are looking to grow and better manage the explosive growth of electronic data, Cortez’s focus on the ASEAN markets is crucial to the execution of Pure Storage’s strategy of simplifying storage. With his technical background and experience in market development, Cortez is helping customers to realize the benefits of all-flash arrays.
