Cloudian Teams With CA Technologies

Cloudian, Inc. announced an agreement with CA Technologies (CA, Inc.) to alleviate the headaches of big backup for enterprises and MSPs via a combined solution that allows companies to redesign their current backup architecture to  leverage cloud computing resources.

“Our research indicates that backup continues to be a major challenge for IT, and one that is not getting any easier in the era of cloud and big data,” said Simon Robinson, research VP, 451 Research LLC. “Interest in cloud-based backup approaches is already strong, and the hybrid cloud backup model is emerging as the preferred method of deployment, especially for SMEs. This joint CA-Cloudian solution is a major step toward finding a simple, scalable, and affordable data protection solution that combines backup and DR.”

IT and backup administrators are spending an amount of time managing backups, particularly when they involve tape technology. Disk-based backups are an alternative but proprietary disk backup appliances can be expensive and difficult to manage. By pairing Cloudian object storage software with CA ARCserve, the two companies are enabling customers to protect their data using commodity hardware instead of tape or proprietary backup appliances, reducing the cost of acquiring and managing backups.

The combined solution empowers IT to backup data to a public, private or hybrid cloud. Hybrid clouds offer additional benefits such as faster backup and restore and DR. Smaller enterprises can re-direct their backup from on-premise to a public cloud. CA supports this hybrid scenario where both private and public Cloudian instances are configured as backup targets, and each backup can be directed to either the private or public Cloudian instance.
