Notification Service by Software Generation in Europe
Transforms workflows by placing archive not at end but at center of operation.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 17, 2013 at 2:50 pmSoftware Generation Ltd, provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, has announced the European launch of its Notification Service at IBC 2013.
This latest development in LTFS further transforms workflows by placing the archive at the centre of the operation rather than at the end.
The Notification Service takes the next step by allowing details about the archived material to be automatically pushed to a MAM or any controlling system integrated with SGL FlashNet.
LTFS is an open file system which can be written by any LTFS compliant solution on an LTO-5 and above drive and read by FlashNet.
Using a subscription setup, the Notification Service announces the arrival of the new material to the controlling system and pushes relevant data describing the archived material based on rules selected by the broadcaster. Workflows can be enhanced and made more dynamic by subscription to any combination of notifications – machine status; media delivery; deletion; addition; movement.
Users can subscribe to notifications appropriate to their interest/specialisation. A news archivist for example could subscribe to notifications about a particular subject area that is topical so that they do not miss the arrival of associated material. The media management team can subscribe to notifications about machine or archive queue status to keep across changes in the dynamic workflow. Notifications are available remotely so the subscriber can be anywhere and still be aware of changes to the system.
Management of the archive is enhanced by the addition of amalgamation services – optimising tape and tape-head usage without limiting access to individual files. The separate elements of an amalgamated archive can still be identified and retrieved and the addition of the Notification service means that users can subscribe to messaging about processes, material and hardware for fast and effective workflow monitoring.
Raj Patel, product manager, SGL says: "The Notification Service further highlights our continued support for LTFS. The technology is truly changing archive workflows providing significant time and cost benefits and improving working practices."
SGL was also demonstrating at IBC FlashBrowse. This archive management application can be configured to provide at-archive browse creation, generating browse resolution copies of clips as the high resolution versions are archived. The FlashBrowse interface can be used to instigate restores or partial file restores directly from the desktop.
