Initially, they were doing all local computing. They had a server that
ran their law firm software (AbacusLaw and Office) and stored all of
their documents, which included a lot of PDF document from scanning client
files.
"When the firm started it was just
me, my partner and 1-2 employees. Today, we have 14 employees. When
we first started out, managing 1-2 machines plus the server wasn’t a big issue,
but managing 14 machines, plus the server at three separate office locations
became very time consuming. Our only help desk at the time was me and my
partner and we would spend several hours each week in tech support just to keep
the office running," said Greg Allen, owner and managing partner, Trendowski
& Allen "We also had issues
with DR/BC. When Hurricane Irene hit, the office was without power for a
full week. I literally had to put the server in my car, drive to
Wallingford and plug the server into a generator just to get access to our
schedules. It was a significant issue and left us with a lot of
downtime. Plus, we were also moving to an electronic environment in the
office to reduce our paper usage at the time. We realized we could not continue
our plan to go paperless without a more reliable electronic system."
Trendowski & Allen replaced all of their hardware and transitioned to the
cloud last fall.
Today, they are using solutions from
dinCloud
and have seen changes including:
- Savings on real estate (server is off site)
- More reliability
-
No more time lost handling tech support issues – off site tech support allows
lawyers to concentrate on doing their real jobs -
Remote access – employees can log in at their desk or home or wherever and have
access to all of their information – everyone can take advantage of
telecommuting or if their kids are sick they can work from home.
Greg added: "We switched over to the
cloud literally three days before Hurricane Sandy hit – and this time, the
experience was entirely different. Our network was completely backed up
via the cloud so we didn’t have to worry about losing information. Additionally, since we were utilizing hosted virtual desktops, we could log in
to our computers from anywhere as long as we had an internet connection."
