Glyph Updated External HDD GPT50 for Creative Professionals

Glyph Production Technologies announced an upgrade to GPT50, new product in a line of rugged tabletop HDDs built for production environments.

Based on a 3.5-inch 7200rpm HDD, the GPT50 features a sturdy, metal enclosure, USB 3.0, an intelligent internal power supply, and smart-fan.

The GPT50 is 33% smaller in size than its predecessor and updated recyclable packaging creates less waste. It is available with capacities of 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB, and 4TB.
 
The GPT50 uses a temperature-controlled fan making it overall quieter than previous designs, while still offering excellent cooling. The case is designed with front-panel ventilation holes to draw cool air in, while exhausting warm air out the back – critical to the performance and reliability of the components.

Many tabletop drives use a proprietary ‘wall-wart’ style power supply. Wall-warts can become easily misplaced, or accidentally unplugged from the drive, and take up valuable outlet space. The GPT50 uses a standard IEC power cord and quality internal power supply for the most efficient and reliable power source possible. With USB 3.0, eSATA, FireWire 800 ports on the GPT50, users can transfer data over the fastest interface available on their computer. Compatible with Macintosh, Windows and UNIX OSs, the GPT50 offers up to 184MB/s read and write data transfer rates.

Designed to keep data safe, the intelligent power switch must be held for 3s to power off the GPT50, guarding against unintended power-off. The front-panel multifunction LED shows drive power status, activity, and also warns of a failing HDD. Additionally, the GPT50 will sense when connected to computer via USB or FireWire and automatically power on.

For production environments that require rack-mounted gear, Glyph provides a rack kit to mount one or two GPT50 drives in a single rack space.
