professional and corporate customers.

Aware of the difficulties experienced by its customers in the day-to-day
management of their backups, Bouygues Telecom has developed a cloud service for
SMBs and for mid-tier businesses. To achieve this, the company has entered into
a partnership with EVault, Inc. to create
a remote backup service hosted by Bouygues Telecom’s cloud system. This
solution provides customers with a guarantee that their data
is backed up and that it can be securely recovered.

The Goal: Launch ‘French-style’ Cloud Service
Bouygues Telecom has chosen to enter the cloud
market to meet the increasingly needs of its customers and in the light
of the development of this promising market. The
network operator has therefore developed a ‘French-style’ cloud platform, with all of its customer data
being stored in its data centres in the country. This cloud platform enables
to round off its range of cloud services already accessible
from the customer portal. The partnership with EVault has provided Bouygues
Telecom’s cloud division with the ability to deploy EVault’s technology within
Bouygues Telecom’s cloud platform, thus ensuring the reliability of
the service in terms of security and availability.

Bouygues Telecom wanted a technology that was designed to provide
security for the data of multiple clients (a ‘multi-tenant’ system) on a shared-usage platform that was easy
and cost-effective to use. Those solutions that were bound to high usage costs
and were not designed for shared usage, instead being deployed within major
companies, were eliminated from the running. Bouygues Telecom
turned to EVault for its simplicity, stability and lower technology costs – three key factors for the SME and mid-tier
customers of the group. The pricing model was equally critical for Bouygues
Telecom, because the EVault Alliance programme is based on an OPEX model.

"EVault has been able to assist us
with our specific needs as a cloud services operator, even going so far as to
aid us with commercial aspects. We’ve been dealing with real cloud backup
professionals,
" said Cyrille Guétin, head of cloud, Bouygues Telecom.

The Challenge:
Develop a Service that is
Cost-effective and Secure
Of paramount importance to Bouygues Telecom was the ability to offer its
customers a solution that is cost-effective, while maintaining a reasonable
profitability/financial risk ratio. The technology platform developed by EVault
was designed for the purpose of providing a service available. This focus
enables EVault’s partners to eliminate the uncontrollable indirect costs
related to usage fees, allowing EVault to reduce its partners’ usage fees by a
factor of 5 or even more in comparison to those backup solutions not conceived
to provide an outsourced service. This in turn enables a service provider to
offer competitive rates to its customers without fear of no longer being
profitable.

EVault provides Bouygues Telecom with solutions that are natively multi-tenant,
which enables the management of multiple clients within a single technical
platform. These technologies are linked to the Bouygues Telecom customer portal
via APIs created through collaboration among the respective teams.

Beyond the technology, it was also of fundamental importance for Bouygues
Telecom to have access to a highly qualified point of contact that was
in a position to understand matters relating, for example, to the network,
storage, servers and development, and to facilitate the transfer of expertise
for the operator’s teams. The expertise of the technical teams at both EVault
and Bouygues Telecom and the quality of the implemented technologies have given
rise to a particularly effective partnership that has culminated in the extremely
fast launch of a technically flawless and economically viable service.

The Result: A Partnership for
Large-Scale Launch
Following several weeks of work with EVault, the operator then launched its
backup service aimed at SMEs and mid-tier companies onto the market. In its
capacity as a partner, EVault continues to support the group by aiding in its
go-to-market strategy and its marketing efforts, by developing the operator’s
sales capacity, and with its involvement in third-level customer support. The first clients are currently in production, aimed at protecting servers and
workstations, whether fixed or mobile.

"The volumes of data exchanged in
SMEs and mid-tier businesses continue to rise unabated. Their needs in terms of
external backup solutions have grown, but information security remains a
challenge for a number of them. The strategic partnership with Bouygues Telecom
in a project of this scope provides these businesses with a secure and flexible
solution that is perfectly adapted to their expectations,
" explains
François Morel, head of EMEA sales, EVault.
