For secure storage

EVRY ASA
and DigiPlex Norway AS have
entered into a partnership to design, build and operate a
data center in Norway.

The center will be technologically and
environmentally state of the art. In effect, Norwegian businesses
and the public sector will get access to a modern data center from 1
September 2014, for storage that provides IT services of
quality.

"The new data center makes up a
key part of EVRY’s renewal program –
Future Proof.
Together with DigiPlex, we are going to realize a data center that is
at par with the best globally, and we can offer our customers secure
storage in Norway. In addition to a new data center, EVRY has
launched new forms of industrialised delivery forms. Thus, we are
taking a quantum leap, which means that our customers get cloud based
and scalable IT services with superior quality that are highly
competitive,
" says CEO Terje Mjøs, EVRY.

"DigiPlex’s business strategy
is focused on the UK and Scandinavia. Through this deal we
consolidate our position as the leading provider in Norway of secure
data centre facilities and services, with our two established data
centers in Ulven and Rosenholm in addition to the new center in Fet.
We offer the highest level in IT housing. The new DigiPlex data
center at Fetsund will not only provide for EVRY’s strategic
requirements but will also create much needed additional capacity for
DigiPlex`s international customers seeking high efficiency, secure
and green data centers
" says Byrne Murphy, chairman,
DigiPlex Group.

Quantum leap
Norwegian consumers, companies and the
public sector use the Internet in increasing ways, whether it is at
work, in education or for entertainment purposes. In the years to
come, data will consist of film, sound and images. So called
unstructured information will grow more than traditional data
registers. The consequence is that the collective data amount double
each 18 months. The consulting firm IDC estimates that the worldwide
data amount will increase from 1.8ZB in 2012 to 35ZB in 2020. This means that the data amount will be 20 times
bigger in eight years.

In addition to the growth
in storage, the user patterns for Internet are changing. Everyone
expects access to their data and digital services 24/7 – every day,
every year, wherever with mobile devices. People streams movies and music
via the Internet, web-TV takes over from traditional media, and continuously uses more digital services to stay in touch with
friends over the Internet. In addition, the use of online newspapers,
online banking and social media increases.

The consequence of this growth in
Internet use and storage is the need for types of IT services that
can handle the increased traffic and complexity, while meeting security and environmental demands in a cost efficient
manner. That is why EVRY takes a leap by building an industrialised
operations organisation. The data center is a central part of this
initiative.

Reducing waste energy by half
The data center in Fet will be world
class and benefit from the technology in order to build a green
data center.

DigiPlex will deploy an tailored air
cooling system. It will remove waste heat from computers and servers.

The efficiency of data centres is
measured by a PUE (Power Utilization Efficiency) factor. While
traditional data centres typically have a PUE of 1.8 – 2, the data
centre in FET will operate with a PUE of just 1.1, which means
reducing waste energy by half based on today`s levels. This PUE means
the data centre will be very efficient in its use of electricity,
with proportionally reduced electricity costs.

Progress ensured
In December 2012, the company entered
into an agreement with Greenfield which was owned by Entra and Lefdal
Mines on building the data center. Shortly after Entra announced that
it wanted out of the project. This created uncertainty for on whether
the project would be realized with the remaining owners. Thus, it
decided to search for an industrial owner of Greenfield.

EVRY has now entered into an agreement
with DigiPlex, an provider of data center technology. It’s going to
design, build and operate the data center. The first building phase
is 4,200 square meters, will be ready September 1st 2014
, and can be
scaled as needed. DigiPlex makes the investment while EVRY has
entered into a 20 year’s operations agreement
, thereby securing the
realization of data center technology in Norway.

EVRY will consolidate its existing 18
data centers and collect all data and machines in the facility at
Fet. The company will still have an operations and backup center at
Gjøvik.

At the same time as the new center is
built and the old ones are consolidated, the company has through its
future proof program adopted technology to deliver services of high
quality and make increased use of automated work processes and
offshoring. The first customers that will migrate to the data center
in a new way are Norway Post,
Gjensidige and Storebrand.
