CommVault Systems, Inc.www.commvault.com, Oceanport, NJ, has been assigned a patent (8,463,994) developed by Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Marlboro, NJ, for a "system and method for improved media identification in a storage device."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Systems and methods are provided for improved identification of removable storage media. A scanner may be used to read an identifier, such as a barcode, on a removable storage media. In the event that the scanner reads the identifier incorrectly due to a defect in the barcode, such as a damaged label, misaligned identifier, or because the scanner is incapable of reading the identifier type or the scanner’s field of view is incorrect, a media management component receives the scanned identifier data and matches it to a known set of media identifiers to create a subset of matching identifier data. A closest matching media identifier may be identified from the subset of matching identifier data. An index may be updated with information indicating the closest matching media identifier and a location of the removable storage media."
The patent application was filed on June 26, 2012 (13/533,046).
Grouping storage system components
CommVault Systems, Inc., Oceanport, NJ, has been assigned a patent (8,443,142) developed by four co-inventors for a "method and system for grouping storage system components."
The co-inventors are Srinivas Kavuri, South Plainfield, NJ, Anand Prahlad, East Brunswick, NJ, Anand Vibhor, Eatontown, NJ, and Parag Gokhale, Ocean, NJ.
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Methods and systems are provided for associating a storage system component, e.g. a server, client, machine, sub-client, or other storage system component, with one or more other storage system components into a group. Storage preferences are defined for the group which is automatically associated with each component in the group. The storage preferences define how storage operations are to be performed on the storage system components."
The patent application was filed on May 31, 2011 (13/149,647).
