MBX Joins Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance
Aiding ISVs and OEMs for whom MBX builds cloud storage systems
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 27, 2013 at 2:45 pmMBX Systems, a designer and manufacturer of
custom server appliances, announced a partnership with Seagate Technology LLC that will aid ISVs
and OEMs for whom MBX builds cloud storage systems.
The partnership is through participation in the Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance,
a component of the Seagate Partner Program that bolsters strategic
relationships with partners building the next-generation
cloud leveraging Seagate technology, devices, features and support services.
Seagate selected MBX to join the program following a seven-year relationship
during which MBX has used Seagate drives as a core component in custom servers
for network storage, cloud computing, and applications in more than other 40
vertical industries.
One of the newest MBX platforms built with Seagate drives is the MBX X-60, a
60-drive, 4U, configurable storage appliance for cloud, video and other high-density storage needs. The X-60 platform is among the first to use
Seagate’s enterprise value HDDs, a line of affordable, high-capacity, energy-efficient
cloud drives featuring vibration tolerance, capacities up to 3TB, and
other features optimized for storing exabytes of unstructured data in demanding
24×7 cloud environments.
MBX uses a range of other Seagate drives for other storage applications,
including complex hardware platforms built to deliver customer Cleversafe, Inc.‘s
object-based dispersed storage technology for solving petabyte and-beyond big data
storage challenges. It has designed more than 75 platforms for Cleversafe to
date, with quarterly changes to ensure use of the newest high-performance
components from Seagate and other vendors.
"The benefit of belonging to the
Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance is that we have an inside track to Seagate
resources. Our Innovation Lab is filled with a full range of Seagate products
to test with different platform configurations and scenarios for our own
reference designs as well as those we’re developing for customers,"
said MBX systems director of engineering Jeff Luckett. "With pre-release access to new drives as
well as the ability to tap into Seagate’s technical expertise when needed, we
offer application developers even greater assurance that they will receive
leading-edge, fully validated hardware platforms to handle their own customers’
critical workloads."
"System builders play an important
role in cloud storage initiatives. We created our Cloud Builder Alliance
program to strengthen their ability to design, integrate and deliver the most
robust hardware to support cloud storage technology," said Mark
Wojtasiak, global marketing manager for cloud, Seagate. "Having MBX on board gives us another strong
partner with long experience in building high-quality custom server platforms
to help businesses take advantage of the benefits of the cloud."
