This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 25, 2013 at 3:01 pmAsigra Inc. announced an expanded feature set for SharePoint data recovery.
The new capabilities protect both single instances of SharePoint and complete farms in either physical or virtual implementations to support backup administrators challenged with protecting one of the enterprise’s most popular content management applications.
SharePoint ranks among the most widely deployed enterprise collaboration platforms in the world with more than 125 million licenses sold to more than 65,000 enterprise customers . According to Microsoft, it is one of the fastest-growing applications in the company’s history and analysts have called SharePoint "the most widely used document – and collaboration-centered platforms today ."
As the importance of content and collaboration grows in the enterprise, SharePoint is increasingly being used by organizations of all sizes to manage, share, track and present enterprise content assets. Given the role it plays in being a central repository for an organization’s intellectual property, SharePoint is one of the most business critical applications in the enterprise. As a result, users must have access to the data in SharePoint to maintain operations. Asigra Cloud Backup provides SharePoint backup and recovery capabilities to meet stringent RTO, including Virtual DR with the ability to run SharePoint from the backup repository for continued operations.
SharePoint enhancement, capabilities now include:
- SharePoint 2013 support
- Single-pass SharePoint Backup: Recover data to the preferred level of granularity from a single backup of SharePoint data. Restore the complete database, individual accounts, or just a single file based on need.
- Restore Location Flexibility: Have the ability to recover the information to the same location it was backed up from or to an alternate location.
- Retain Critical Metadata: Retain information about the permissions and access rights of individual files when it is restored from the backup repository.
- Non-Disruptive Backups: Backup large content repositories without affecting application performance.
- Enterprise Scalability: Protect everything from single instances to large SharePoint farms in physical and virtual implementations.
- Virtual DR: Provides the ability to run a VM hosting SharePoint from the backup repository for continued operations.
Asigra provides scalable data protection for SharePoint, protecting single instances of SharePoint or complete farms. The solution also protects SharePoint data in either physical or virtual operating environments for maximum deployment flexibility. Asigra’s new functionality helps organizations achieve granular recoveries across various levels – from the complete database down to the level of individual files – all from a single pass backup. This helps simplify the process of managing SharePoint backup and restores while also reducing storage costs and administrative overhead.
"Because of the increasing use of SharePoint and the critical nature of documents stored in these repositories, it is essential that organizations ensure the availability of this data," said Tracy Staniland, VP marketing, Asigra. "The enhancements we’ve made help organizations recover at any level of granularity from a single backup of SharePoint, helping to eliminate otherwise long recovery processes."
Asigra Cloud Backup v12.2 will become available on June 26th and is priced starting at $1,080 per compressed de-duped terabyte. Pricing scales based on configuration.
