FileTek Introduces ForeverNAS StorHouse Technology

For long-term, forever-read data

FileTek, Inc., a provider of
large-scale data management and storage virtualization solutions,
introduced its ForeverNAS
StorHouse
technology.

It is a concept for
solving long-term storage and data management problems associated
with the volume of ‘forever read’ data information that
organizations must store, access, and protect for long time periods
or in perpetuity to satisfy compliance/legal requirements or to
continue to leverage as a long-term business asset. By combining the
conveniences of NAS solutions (online CIFS/NFS connectivity, a
front-end file system interface, and networking capabilities) with
storage management features, ForeverNAS delivers long-term storage
platform.

While standard NAS solutions meet the requirements for primary, or tier 1, storage, they do not provide the features necessary to manage
large volumes of data on a long-term basis. These features include a
scalable global namespace that accommodates future storage growth
with no adverse effects on system performance, data integrity
protection, and a hardware agnostic strategy that blends cost storage
options in a multi-tier strategy while maintaining a NAS interface.

It also supports an
open storage architecture that incorporates the ‘next big thing’ in
storage technologies as they become available, data migration from
obsolete storage devices and media types to new ones automatically
during normal system operation, and a policy creation engine for
automating storage management features such as migration, backup,
active archive, retention, replication, and recovery. Moreover,
organizations can add the StorHouse/Trusted Edge storage migration
management module to the ForeverNAS architecture to create a holistic
solution that performs storage analysis, data migration, and storage
management functions in a single system.

"It is
amazing to see how companies have evolved their thinking on how much
and how long data should be stored,
" commented Mark Seamans,
CTO, FileTek. "Most of our customers now view data as an
increasingly important asset that maintains value to the organization
over longer periods of time, and, in some instances, they would like
to store it forever. While some of this thought evolution is a result
of increased regulatory/legal requirements, much is being driven by
new uses for data in analysis models, new data types being created by
diverse applications, and the general realization that organizations
utilizing long-term data assets more effectively are out performing
their competition. For these reasons, our ForeverNAS concept makes a
lot of sense to our growing customer base.
