Caringo Expands Object Storage Software Options for Dell Customers

Software appliance to replace single hardware DX6000 platform

Caringo, Inc. announced a generation of object storage available across the full spectrum of Dell, Inc.‘s servers delivering comprehensive and flexible object-based cloud storage and active archive capabilities.

The suite of Caringo object storage software will now be available online through Dell, backed by Caringo’s pre-sales, sales and services expertise. Standard configurations and customization will be possible with Dell’s line of x86 server and networking products. Customers will benefit from the flexibility, and additional functionality offered through the software suite.

The software appliance model will replace the single hardware DX6000 platform previously offered by Dell. Because of Caringo’s architectural characteristics, all investments in existing appliances will be protected; new hardware and software can be added at any time with no forklift upgrades or data migration required with access to options unavailable on the DX6000.

"This change to a software appliance delivery method reflects market requirements as users increasingly request a broader selection of hardware to meet the needs that span a range from cloud storage to active archive applications," said Mark Goros, CEO of Caringo. "Dell and Caringo take pride in our joint ability to deliver the right products and services to a wide variety of users. With increasing volume of customers and the relentless growth of data, it makes sense to expand the offerings to take advantage of the flexibility of Caringo software and the full spectrum of Dell servers available today."

The expansion of software appliance options tracks with recent research that revealed strong preferences for software-based, hardware-independent object storage software over hardware-based object storage systems.

Caringo will make its entire software suite available including: CAStor 6.0 with Elastic Content Protection (ECP), Content Router, Cluster Services Node, CloudScaler, Indexer, and Content File Server software. CAStor provides a data protection functionality, allowing organizations to meet storage SLA, optimize deployment footprint and enhance data accessibility regardless of the volume, velocity or variability of unstructured information. ECP uses replication and erasure coding and leverages Caringo’s automated health monitoring and recovery to optimize responsiveness as capacity grows.
