Combination of ExaGrid and LaserVault

Disk backup for IBM iSeries

ExaGrid Systems, Inc., in disk-based backup solutions for iSeries, now recommends the use of LaserVault Backup (LVB) in combination with ExaGrid for a fast and simple solution as an alternative to tape.

The combination of ExaGrid and LVB provides iSeries users with a powerful system for improved backup performance, fast and reliable data restores, and rapid recovery from system or site disasters. Everything a company needs in today’s data-driven world.

It’s been shown that moving from tape to a disk-based backup system can reduce backup times as much as 90%, and the combination of these two systems eliminates the hassle and uncertainty of tape.

ExaGrid’s recently published data sheet states the following: "With the combination of the IBM iSeries, LaserVault Backup, and ExaGrid disk-based backup with deduplication, you can achieve faster backups and store data in much smaller footprints. The LaserVault Backup application quickly creates a virtual backup file that is then written directly to a NAS interface on the ExaGrid appliance. This simple integration avoids complex configuration and management often required in products that use VTL interfaces." (LVB does not require VTLs.)

"For iSeries users, implementing LVB in conjunction with Exagrid gives them a well-integrated and easy to use option for disk-to-disk backup. The combination creates a powerhouse in backup systems that is incredibly reliable and surprisingly easy to use," states Rick Wilson, VP sales for LVB. "The great thing about LVB and ExaGrid is that both are systems with proven results in helping business more successfully manage their backup processes."

LVB is a Windows-based application that manages backups using commands that look very similar to current IBM commands resulting in a system that is easy to manage for iSeries systems. Backups can be completely automated, and the backed up files can be copied for offsite backup or restored to the iSeries quickly. LVB is provided by Electronic Storage Corporation, provider of software since 1989.
