Healthcare Practice Trusts Symantec Cloud-Managed Solutions
For protecting sensitive information

Symantec Corporation announced that
The Cardiac and Vascular Institute (TCAVI) is entrusting the protection of
their sensitive information to Symantec, utilizing Symantec Endpoint Protection
Small Business Edition 2013 and Symantec Backup Exec.cloud.
Because the healthcare practice has multiple locations, and employees are using
a variety of remote endpoints, it was important to implement a flexible
security and backup solution that could be administered from a central
location.
"When our company was formed
from the merger of two healthcare practices, we found ourselves dealing with
four or five different antivirus solutions," said Josh Cook, IT
director for The Cardiac and Vascular Institute. "We had been using Symantec Backup Exec.cloud, and we knew how simple
and effective it was at helping us maintain HA of our information. Symantec’s
cloud-managed endpoint protection solution integrates into the same management
interface, is within our budget, and it is a great fit for us."
Because of strict regulations in the healthcare industry regarding patient
records and other sensitive data, TCAVI required a security solution that would
keep them compliant without hindering their ability to deliver the information
employees need, when they need it.
"We have doctors who attend
conferences all over the world, and we have to make sure that information
access on outside networks can’t endanger confidential records," noted
Cook. "With Symantec, our patient
information is safe and our employees have the freedom to be productive."
Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 enables businesses
to protect desktops, laptops and servers with a cloud-managed service. Updates
happen and automatically even when devices are not connected to the company
network. This is especially helpful for home-based transcriptionists, enabling
TCAVI to maintain up-to-date protection for their employees’ own machines. Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 delivers anti-virus,
anti-spyware, firewall and host intrusion prevention technologies to secure
endpoints at every level. Administrators can perform updates from the central
interface in real time, and compile reports on security activities.
TCAVI’s recent upgrade to Endpoint Protection Small Business
Edition 2013 introduces an additional benefit – the ability to prevent file
transfers to USB flash drives. This improves their Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance posture and further reduces the risk
of confidential information exposure.
"Small businesses have never
been targeted with attacks like they are now. Today’s SMBs are four times more
at risk of malware attacks than larger companies, making security more
important than ever," said Grant McDonald, senior product marketing
manager, Symantec. "Symantec
Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 uses a single subscription to
address today’s diverse endpoint environments by allowing customers to choose
between a cloud-based, web-managed service or a locally-managed deployment that
allows them to move to the cloud when they are ready – at no additional cost.
Supported by our global threat intelligence and multiple threat defense
technologies, users and administrators can gain peace of mind that their
confidential information is protected – wherever their users are located."
Symantec Backup Exec.cloud handles TCAVI’s day-to-day backups, and is also the foundation for its DR strategy. Backup Exec.cloud protects critical data by automatically streaming it, encrypted, to Symantec’s secure, off-site data centers. In the event of a disaster, TCAVI can restore their files to any Internet-connected location. Considering the importance of data – both patient and business records – the ability to have data offsite yet accessible is invaluable to TCAVI.
