Bill Roth VP Products and Marketing, Sophia

Was previously VP marketing Nexenta.

Sophia Search, Ltd., in semantic content analysis, has appointed Bill Roth as VP of products and marketing.

This announcement follows the company’s recent Series A funding round which raised $3.7 million.

roth_sophia Roth will lead Sophia’s product management, marketing, and demand generation efforts as the company continues its sales and brand expansion.

Sophia’s products provide understanding and context within large sets of unstructured content. The solutions are used in large advertising and publishing houses to automatically understand the meaning of content users are consuming and to intelligently leverage this insight to deliver the information and services they need. Advertisers can achieve up to three times higher click through rates by providing more relevant ad content without using cookies. Publishers’ sales can be increased by intelligently recommending titles through an understanding of readers’ interests while maintaining anonymity.

"We are pleased to have Bill join the executive team as we gear up for our next phase of growth," said David Patterson, CEO, Sophia. "His enterprise software expertise combined with his proven track record in marketing and business development will be invaluable to the company as we continue to deliver solutions that give customers the enhanced analytics, insights and intelligence they need to drive more value and profitability for their businesses."

Roth has over 25 years of experience in marketing at leading public and privately-held information technology companies. Prior to joining Sophia, he was VP marketing at open storage solutions provider, Nexenta. Before that, he was the VP and business unit lead of the BEA Systems workshop business unit, prior to the acquisition by Oracle. Previous to BEA, he held leadership positions with Epiphany, Sun Microsystems (JavaSoft), and Morgan Stanley.

"Sophia has an incredible combination of ground-breaking technology, innovation and product differentiation to capitalize on the analytics market that is rich in opportunity," said Bill Roth, VP of products and marketing, Sophia. "I look forward to leading the company’s marketing and demand generation as we drive substantial market share and value for our customers in the publishing and advertorial sectors."

Sophia has also hired Shankari Panchapakesan as senior director of product management, where she will focus on the advertising and publishing verticals. She brings 15+ years of experience in product management and engineering from companies as diverse as The Nielsen company, ATT Mobility and Ericsson.
