FileTek Support LTO-6

Drives and media

FileTek,
Inc.
, a provider of large-scale data management, big storage
virtualization, and active archive solutions, announced that its StorHouse data management platform now supports LTO-6 tape drives and media.

LTO-6 increases tape capacity and data
throughput capabilities over previous LTO versions for big storage, backup, and
active archive applications while providing encryption, WORM technology, and
partitioning for LTFS functionality.

For example, LTO-6 drives and cartridges
can store 2.5TB of data natively or 6.25TB of compressed data and provide 160MB/s native throughput per drive. When compared with previous generation LTO-5
technology, these numbers represent a 40% performance boost and more than
double capacity (with compression).

StorHouse is a storage virtualization and
data management platform that blends disk, tape, and the cloud as part of a
scaled-out NAS environment while providing a backup strategy for
big data. Because StorHouse abstracts hardware, users see a single unified
global namespace rather than specific device types.

SSD, JBOD, RAID, MAID, and
tape, including LTO varieties, all look like one unlimited storage pool. And by
writing data in native rather than proprietary file format, StorHouse
eliminates formal restore procedures and gives users self-service access to all
data at any time without IT intervention. No application interfaces or changes
to existing applications are required. Other features include CIFS and NFS
connections and security, system automation for automatic content
validation/repair to eliminate silent corruption/bit rot problems, LTFS
support, and individual backup file deletes on any media, including tape.

"One
way FileTek maintains its leading edge approach to storage management is by
being hardware agnostic. Our StorHouse data management and active archive
platform automatically incorporates media and hardware choices such as LTO-6
media and devices as they become available based on long-term price performance
requirements rather than what’s available from a particular vendor,
"
remarked Gary Szukalski, president of FileTek. "Moreover, when it’s time to add new devices or media, StorHouse
automatically migrates content from existing devices to new ones without
interrupting user access to data. With LTO-6 as an important tier of StorHouse
virtualized storage, FileTek is able to provide faster, more efficient
operation and lower-cost per TB solutions for big storage problems.
