Cache-A Ships LTO-6 Desktop Archiving Appliance

The release of Prime-Cache6 completes the release of LTO-6 technology across product line – including the Pro-Cache6, high-performance Power-Cache, and flexible Library 24/48 automation systems – all of which will be make their US debuts at NAB 2013, at Cache-A’s booth.
Prime-Cache6, noted for its near-silent operation and designed for office and on-set use, carries forward the durability and performance capabilities of its LTO-5 predecessor. Along with LTO-6, it features a toughened chassis, plus a larger built-in 4TB of rugged, 2.5-inch, HDD RAID that accelerates disk-based transfer speeds.
Prime-Cache-6 is also shipping with Cache-A’s latest v3.2 software upgrade – based on 64-bit enterprise CentOS 6.2 – that delivers further leaps in performance and operability.

Key features of Prime-Cache6
Prime-Cache6 delivers all the features needed to provide professionals in film and video with networkable LTO-tape storage systems at an affordable price.
- LTFS capability – carried its advanced LTFS capabilities into Prime-Cache6, with new seamless cartridge-spanning of large projects, along with an array of enhancements, such as MD5 checksums, that are not included in other LTFS implementations.
- Reinforced chassis and small form factor – providing robustness in on-set production environments. At 10.75" x 4.4" x 10.75" (273mm x 112mm x 273mm), it is a small archiving tool in its class.
- New 4TB 2.5-inch RAID-0 – delivering disk bandwidth that doubles the disk throughput of original Prime-Cache models.
- New v3.2 software – featuring accelerated 64-bit processing, email notifications, queue management, new LTFS tape-spanning capabilities, plus customer-driven operational features allowing users to archive, access and exchange archived content with greater ease.
- Built-in catalog database – enables Prime-Cache6 to remember every file, folder and every LTO tape it has ever seen, making it easy for users to track, search and retrieve content.
- Connectivity – Prime Cache6’s dual GbE, two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports, enable deployment in a variety of professional digital media workflows – from on-set cart systems to SAN/NAS systems in post-production.
As with previous generations of LTO technology, LTO-6 systems provide backward compatibility with previous generations of LTO tape. Prime-Cache6 can R/W LTO-5 and LTO-6 cartridges and read LTO-4 cartridges, helping to preserve media investments and ease implementation.
LTO-6 is the sixth generation of LTO technology. LTO was launched in 2000, and tape has a shelf life of at least 30 years. With four million tape drives in use, plus more the 200 million cartridges sold worldwide, it has proven an economical and safe long-term storage technology for the IT and media and entertainment industries.
Prime-Cache6 is priced at $8,995 and is available from resellers.
