Fabasoft Deploys Cloud Location Service in Former Swiss National Defence Command Center

With guarantee data remain within the country

With the concept of cloud locations Fabasoft Distribution GmbH guarantees its customers the
security of knowing where the storage takes place.

The cloud location Switzerland
guarantees that data can remain 100% within the country.

The Folio cloud offers customers structured
business applications for collaboration with business partners via the
internet. This means agility and speed in the implementation of business
processes across company and country borders.

The more extensive the possibilities, the
more important familiarity becomes. Fabasoft is based in the ‘steel city’ of Linz with Fabasoft eGov-Suite installations in federal departments and
administrative bodies. This proximity to Switzerland has taken on a physical
dimension with the concept of cloud locations.

Helmut Fallmann, member of the Fabasoft AG managing board, said: "The concept of
cloud locations is unique. We offer our customers freedom of choice and the
assurance of knowing where their cloud data is stored. With the new cloud
location in the Swiss alps we have achieved a further milestone for more
security in the cloud.
Natural
wonder meets Swiss engineering prowess.
"

Michael Imfeld, VP of sales and marketing at
Deltalis SA, who built and operate the main data center for the Fabasoft cloud
location Switzerland,
emphasizes the combination of ‘natural good luck’ and the most modern
computing.

"Because
of cooling needs many data centers are located in faraway cold regions.
However, the 1,000 meters
of granite above and cold groundwater enable a highly energy- and CO2-efficient
facility in the middle of Switzerland.
Just 1-2 data milliseconds from Zurich,
Zug or Luzern – and less than an hour away by car.
"

It isn’t by chance that the command center
of the Swiss National Defence was, for a long time, hidden in this mountain
near Attinghausen in Canton Uri. Only recently, all theoretically possible
disaster and terror scenarios were run through for highly sensitive storage.

The conclusion, according to Imfeld: "It is the most secure data center in Switzerland. Full stop."

The worst case down time per year is 5 minutes and 16 seconds, almost twice as
good as what the strictest legal regulations prescribe.

Alongside security, Imfeld attaches
importance to ensuring that the facility is ‘anything but a damp bunker’: "Dryness,
light, real office feeling… like a multi-story company head office, just inside
a mountain rather than in the countryside or in an exposed site in the city
."
