With IBM Power 7 and LTO-5 drive

Headquartered in Chardon, OH, Fairmont Minerals uses JD Edwards as their
primary software currently running on a Power 5 IBM midrange system.

Looking ahead to future considerations,
Fairmount Minerals tasked UCG to design a system with functionality to run JD Edwards
EnterpriseOne application. Growth was another key factor. United Computer
Group’s lead technician, Vladmir Capitanov, worked with the
helpful team at Fairmount to design the new system.

With UCG as the lead, Fairmount upgraded to
IBM’s latest release, V7R1. UCG recommended running IBM’s analyzer tool first
to check the current software for issues that may arise with the conversion to
V7R1. They also provided Fairmount with a tape drive to enable them to back up
their current data for transfer and migration to the new system. A key benefit
for Fairmount Minerals is the LTO-5 tape drive – one of IBM’s latest models-that
is part of the system package. The new LTO-5 is able to read two generations
back. As well, UCG provided an LTO-3 to enable the transition.

The
implementation was launched in mid-January 2013.
