and support for host memory access
Marvell World Trade Ltd., St. Michael, Barbados, has been assigned a patent (8,332,555) developed by Sehat Sutardja, Los Altos Hills, CA, for a "disk drive system on chip with integrated buffer memory and support for host memory access."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A circuit for a storage device that communicates with a host device comprises a first high speed interface. A storage controller communicates with the high speed interface. A buffer communicates with the storage controller. The storage device generates storage buffer data during operation. The storage controller is adapted to selectively store the storage buffer data in at least one of the buffer and/or in the host device via the high speed interface. A bridge chip for enterprise applications couples the circuit to an enterprise device."
The patent application was filed on June 6, 2011 (13/154,356).
Storing data encoded
with error information in storage medium
Marvell International, Hamilton, Bermuda, has been assigned a patent (8,352,837) developed by Jun Zhu, San Jose, CA, Peter Tze-Hwa Liu, Alameda, CA, and Joseph Jun Cao, Los Gatos, CA, for a "system and methods for storing data encoded with error information in a storage medium."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "System and methods for storing data encoded with error information in a storage medium are provided. A binary data and an encoded binary error signals are received. The encoded binary error signal includes information that represents occurrence of errors in the binary data signal. The binary data and encoded binary error signals are encoded to generate a binary codeword signal. Bits of the binary codeword signal that represent coding information and the binary data signal are extracted. The extracted bits of the binary codeword signal are stored in a first storage medium. The binary packed data signal is retrieved from the first storage device and decoded to recover the binary data signal and a syndrome. Error information corresponding to the encoded binary error signal may be determined based on the syndrome."
The patent application was filed on March 12, 2010 (12/723,194).
Optical storage system having differential phase detector
Marvell International, Bermuda, has been assigned a patent (8,363,517) developed by Christopher Painter, and Jin Xie, Longmont, CO, for an "optical storage system having differential phase detector."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A differential phase detector for an optical storage system is set forth. The differential phase detector includes a photodetector circuit arranged to detect light deviations associated with radial errors in the optical storage system. A non-linear equalizer is in communication with the photodetector circuit. The output of the non-linear equalizer is in communication with signal processing circuitry. The signal processing circuitry uses the equalized signals to generate one or more radial error signals."
The patent application was filed on Jan. 24, 2012 (13/356,954).
