The 7226 offers SAS, USB, and FC electronic interface drive options for attachment to POWER6, POWER7, and PureFlex systems, POWER7 Systems Director Management Console (SDMC),IBM POWER BladeCenters, and to other Linux-based OEM systems.

It is a storage enclosure that is designed to deliver external tape, removable disk drive, and DVD-RAM drive options that allow data transfer within similar system archival storage and retrieval technologies installed in existing IT facilities. The 7226 offers an expansive list of drive feature options.

7226 Multi-Media Enclosure options

  • DAT160 80GB Tape Drives: With SAS or USB interface options and a data transfer rate of up to 24MB/second, the DAT160 drive is read-write compatible with DAT160, DAT72, and DDS4 data cartridges.
  • Half-high LTO Ultrium 5 SAS and FC Tape Drive: With data transfer rates of up to 280MB/second with 2:1 compression, HHLT05 is read-write compatible with LTO Ultrium 5 and LTO Ultrium 4 data cartridges, and read-only compatible with Ultrium 3 data cartridges.
  • Half-high LTO Ultrium 6 SAS and FC Tape Drive: With data transfer rates of up to 320MB/second with 2:1 compression, HHLT06 is read-write compatible with LTO Ultrium 6 and LTO Ultrium 5 data cartridges, and read-only compatible with Ultrium 4 data cartridges.

Removable RDX drives are in a rugged cartridge that inserts in an RDX removable (USB) disk docking station (feature number EU03). RDX drives are compatible with docking stations installed internally in POWER6 and POWER7 servers.

Media used in the 7226 DAT160 SAS and USB tape drive features are compatible with DAT160 tape drives installed internally in POWER6 and POWER7 servers, and in BladeCenter systems.

Media used in half-high LTO Ultrium 5 tape drives is compatible with HHLTO5 tape drives installed in IBM TS2250 and TS2350 external tape drives, LTO-5 tape libraries, and HHLTO5 tape drives installed internally in POWER6 and IBM POWER7 servers.

Media used in half-high LTO Ultrium 6 tape drives is compatible with HHLTO6 tape drives installed in IBM TS2260 and TS2360 external tape drives, IBM LTO-6 tape libraries, and HHLTO6 tape drives installed internally in POWER6 and POWER7 servers.

The 7226 offers customer replaceable unit maintenance service to help make installation or replacement of new drives efficient. Other 7226 components are also designed for CRU maintenance.

Mandatory software

The 7226 is compatible with most POWER6 and POWER7 systems, as well as BladeCenter models (PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and PS704), and PureFlex systems that offer current level AIX, IBMi, and LINUX OSs.

System support of 7226 features
POWER Systems supports all SAS, USB, and FC tape drives, DVD-RAM, and RDX Removable drive features on the 7226.

BladeCenters support DAT160, HHLTO5, and HHLTO6 SAS tape drive features, and also support attachment of RDX Removable drive features on 7226. BladeCenters do not support DVD-RAM device or LTO FC tape drive attachment. PureFlex systems support attachment of HHLTO5 and HHLTO6 FC tape drive features, DVD-RAM USB drive features, and RDX Removable drive features. PureFlex systems do not support SAS tape drives and DVD-RAM devices.
