Novosoft
LLC. is rolling out a version of their online backup service.
The updates include faster performance,
initial backup seeding service, updated web interface, and more.
"This is the biggest change
we’ve ever made to the service, and it touches every single part of
it," said Alexander Rassokhin, product manager of Handy
Backup. "Everything became much faster: our tests showed up
to 5x increase in performance when doing incremental backups. We’re
launching a new service of initial backup seeding that will let users
physically ship their HDDs to our storage centers
instead of transferring GB of data over the Internet.
We have a new web interface that became simpler and easier to use.
And there’s more to come."
The service is a result of the
company’s recent efforts in creating a Linux version of Handy Backup.
It shares client-server architecture of their enterprise edition of
the program, Handy Backup Network Server, with storage components
launched in the cloud. In this scheme, remote clients communicate
with the cloud software using the company’s proprietary rsync-like
protocol, making backups faster and more secure.
"All participants of Early
Access Program can already take advantage of the new system. We are
planning to roll it out globally in a month, starting with the US and
Canada. Right now it is available in Windows version only, but Linux
and Android clients will come in the nearest future," said Rassokhin.
