Symantec System Recovery 2013

Protects Windows Server 2012 and vSphere 5.1.

Symantec Corporation announced Symantec System Recovery 2013, providing organizations with system protection with platform support for Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and vSphere 5.1.

With the new version, system recovery is more efficient and easier to manage with simplified installation, efficient backup and reconciliation, free centralized management, and easier issue diagnosis. System Recovery 2013 continues to allow companies to restore physical and virtual systems in minutes, even to bare metal, dissimilar hardware, remote locations, or virtual environments.

SIt includes support for the latest applications and OSs, a new management solution for large scale deployments, and faster backup windows by up to 750%.

"IT organizations today face hardware, software and application downtime, lasting short periods of time to shutting down the business for days on a regular basis. Without adequate planning and preparation, any type of downtime can compromise a return to operations and cause financial damage as the ability to generate revenue is lost," said Kate Lewis, product manager, information management group, Symantec. "In today’s world, the need to ensure constant access to key applications is paramount. Symantec System Recovery 2013 provides SMBs with affordable application availability by simplifying recovery of both physical and virtual platforms."

Operational continuity and recovery
from outages paramount for SMBs

System Recovery 2013 delivers backup and DR for servers, desktops, laptops, and VMs that enable businesses to recover from downtime or disasters in minutes. With patented Restore Anyware technology, IT administrators can restore what they need, when and where they need it – including entire physical and VMs to bare metal or dissimilar hardware as well as files, folders, and granular application objects.

System Recovery also provides cross-platform Physical-to-Virtual (P2V), Virtual-to-Virtual (V2V), and Virtual to-Physical (V2P) recoveries, a complement to physical and virtual environments.

Advanced monitoring and added platform support
make backup and recovery tasks quick and simple

Once the files to be backed up, a backup schedule, and a backup destination have been set, System Recovery begins backup automatically. Because it uses image backup technology to capture a snapshot of the entire system, backup and recovery tasks take just a few minutes. System Recovery 2013 adds support for the Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and vSphere 5 platforms and a new monitoring tool, System Recovery Monitor. The System Recovery Monitor does not require a dedicated server, but can monitor the backup of several servers and desktops centrally with one system running Windows. It makes backup progress and the state of the backup system visible with its simple user interface.

Additional new features in System Recovery 2013

  • UEFI Support: System Recovery now enables boot from UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) in addition to BIOS.
  • 64 bit Support: 64 bit support included.
