Disuk’s Solution to Convert Encrypted Tapes
Using end of life Decru encryption appliances
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 26, 2012 at 3:28 pmDISUK Limited releases a solution to convert tapes encrypted using the now end of life Decru encryption appliances.
In 2010 NetApp announced the end of life for the Decru encryption appliances, this left the users with a migration nightmare as the conventional method to convert tapes from one format to another would be to use the original host environment to read the tape from the Decru encrypted format and then write the same data out to tape using the new encryption method.
This process not only generates an overhead on the host environments requiring disk storage, tape drives and of course the appropriate processor availability but also creates a scheduling problem for operations.
Using the SecureCopy3 solution, a user who needs to migrate from the unsupported Decru Datafort solutions can now migrate tapes in a single operation without the need for expensive host resources. The SecureCopy3 is a stand-alone solution and tapes generated by the SecureCopy3 are compatible with the Paranoia3 encryption appliance.
SecureCopy3
SecureCopy3 reads tapes via the customer’s existing Decru unit and then re-encrypts them in the Paranoia3 format, thus ensuring they remain encrypted but can now be re-used via a supported Paranoia3 appliance without any changes to the OS. All tape labels and formatting remains intact so from the host tape management system remains unchanged.
By utilising the solution, customers can migrate to the supported Paranoia3 platform without any additional downtime or processing requirements on their host systems. This solution is available on a rental basis so once all tapes are converted, the system is returned and no Capex budget in used.
