Vantec
Thermal Technologies announced an addition to the Hard
Drive Dock lineup, the NexStar
WiFi Hard Drive Dock.
It allows users to connect wirelessly
to the data stored in the their HDD over the Hard Drive Dock’s
Wi-Fi signal. Anyone with Wi-Fi capable devices can connect to the dock. Vantec also released apps on the Apple App Store and Google
Play Store to work with the NexStar WiFi.
With the usage of mobile smart devices, capacity becomes an issue and to process
file-sharing without an Internet network can also become an
inconvenience. The company provided a solution
by adding this product to the mix and creating a hub for all types
of data and file sharing. PC computer and Mac can share files
wirelessly over the SMB protocol. It is also UPnP capable so media
players and media centers can browse files when they are connected to
the same Wi-Fi network from the NexStar.
The app is available on the App
Store and Google
Play Store and is free. Additional features have been added to
the App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch such as Airplay support
allowing data to be streamed to devices supporting Airplay.
The Hard Drive Dock product line
started in 2008 and Vantec has since then introduced products to
choose from including models featuring external interfaces and also
the dual bay HDD dock models. The NexStar WiFi includes a USB
3.0 external interface to work with the USB 3.0 standard for file
transfer.
The NexStar WiFi Hard Drive Dock will
be available this December.
