Data Locker Inc., developer of encrypted data storage products, announced a secure external hard drive for Mac computers with the release of the new Data Locker DL3 for Mac.

It features a touch-screen to enter a user’s unique pin and up to 1TB of storage with hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption for secure mobility that’s simple to use.

It is the latest in a line of Data Locker branded encrypted external hard drives, joining the DL3 and DataLocker Enterprise, which are USB enabled for connection to a laptop or desktop computer running any OS, with no software or drivers to install.

The DL3 for Mac requires no software to manage, encrypt or deploy the device. All encryption and management functions are performed at the device level. 256 bit AES XTS mode drive encryption and patented virtual touchscreen keypad complete protection against force attacks. In addition, the DL3 for Mac is invisible to the Mac until it’s connected to the device and has been authenticated by the user. Data on a lost or stolen drive cannot be accessed without the authentication input.

"The DL3 for Mac is the latest in our expanding family of award-winning secure storage drives," said Jay Kim, founder and COO, Data Locker. "With so much growth in the Apple Mac platform, users who want to store and protect data locally instead of the cloud can look to Data Locker products as an ideal solution. A recent security breach with a writer from Wired Magazine provides that storage in the cloud isn’t always the most secure option. The DL3 for Mac provides the security needed to protect data and applications while providing a physical place to store files. Like our other products, Data Locker has made the DL3 for Mac easy to use."

Features of DL3 for Mac include:

  • USB 3.0 interface
  • 256 bit AES XTS mode crypto engine
  • Up to 1TB capacity
  • Time Machine-Ready for simple and secure back-ups
  • No drivers or software required
  • PIN directly inputted on device
  • HFS+ or Mac OS Extended Format

  • Rapid key zeroization for secure redeployment

  • Self-destruct mode for brute force attack defense

The DL3 for Mac pricing starts at $479.99 and will begin shipping November 2012.
