RAID, Inc. Selected Smart Storage Systems Optimus SSD
For enterprise storage solution
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 26, 2012 at 3:01 pmSMART Storage Systems, Inc. announced that RAID, Inc. has selected the company’s Optimus SAS SSD for use in its next-generation EBOD storage solution.
Designed for mid-level, enterprise-class storage solutions, the next-generation 2U 24-bay EBOD will leverage the Optimus SAS SSD to deliver improved performance and enhanced endurance to RAID, Inc.’s customers.
SMART Storage Systems and RAID, Inc. was demonstrated the EBOD equipped with 24 Optimus SAS 200GB SSDs at Supercomputing 2012, November 12 – 15, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT.
The RAID, Inc. 2U 24-bay EBOD is designed as an enterprise-class JBOD using the SAS 6Gb/s interface. It achieves a sustained transfer rate of up to 6GB/s and delivering random read performance of as much as 1M IOPS, in an energy efficient 24×7 HA redundant enclosure.
"We are highly impressed with the Optimus SAS SSDs from SMART Storage Systems. They have everything you look for in an SSD: endurance, performance, reliability, and value," said Bob Picard, CEO of RAID Inc. "The addition of the Optimus SSD to our EBOD storage solution significantly increases its overall performance and endurance, making the EBOD the preeminent storage solution for our customers."
Designed for the demanding enterprise and HPC environments, Optimus SAS SSD delivers random read/write performance of up to 100K/50K IOPS, a maximum sustained transfer rate in excess of 500MB/s, and is available in capacities ranging from 200GB to 1.6TB.
Performance is complimented by SMART Storage Systems’ Guardian Technology Platform which enables to deliver 10 full random drive writes per day for a period of five years while using consumer-grade MLC NAND flash.
The Guardian Technology Platform is comprised of a suite of proprietary features, including FlashGuard, EverGuard, and DataGuard technologies. FfashGuard enables commercial MLC flash to achieve higher endurance levels while also ensuring that little-to-no performance degradation will occur over the life of the drive. DataGuard and EverGuard technologies work together to ensure that data integrity and drive reliability are never compromised enabling Optimus to meet the reliability requirements of the demanding tier-1 enterprise storage applications.
Optimus also includes Data Integrity Feature (DIF) functionality, and provides support for the PI Type 1 and 2 command set.
"Today’s enterprises not only require extreme performance, but also solutions that can withstand the write-intensive applications that are common in the enterprise environment," said John Scaramuzzo, president of SMART Storage Systems. "RAID Inc.’s EBOD with the Optimus SSD takes enterprise performance and endurance to new heights. With this combined solution, enterprise organizations can address the most demanding application requirements, while also ensuring that their dollar goes further by providing the highest in SSD endurance."
