Networks, Inc., a specialist in scalable storage, announced it has completed
delivery of more than 400TB of storage capacity to Japanese postproduction
market leader Imagica. Corp.
The deployment expands upon an existing DDN xStreamScaler solution and upgrades
the workflow, providing two uncompressed 4K streams for real-time editing, and
the addition of a DDN GRIDScaler file storage solution with DDN SFA storage.
Faced with increasing demand for high definition film and video production,
Imagica, a household name for movie fans and those involved in film
production, selected DDN after evaluating solutions to upgrade the capacity and
performance of its editing infrastructure to enable frame-accurate editing
needed for uncompressed 4K workflows."
"With
its balanced IOPs and throughput performance, DDN systems are an ideal platform
for frame-accurate editing," said Imagica director of digital production,
Makoto Minami, of the selection criteria for the new system. "DDN’s industry-leading scalability enables
easy capacity and performance upgrades. We are also pleased with the high
density and low energy consumption. Quite simply, the DDN proposal was the best
fit for our requirements.
"The
upgrade to our existing DDN system, together with the addition of an SFA10K
system brings our total storage capacity to over 400 TB, and the performance
and density of the appliance was very attractive to us. Further, DDN GridScaler
provides excellent scalability for future upgrades in bandwidth and capacity,
and is an ideal solution for sharing original data, on-line and off-line
editing, and DMS data in a single volume and across many different work
stations."
"This order from our partner Imagica
is of crucial significance to DDN," said Robert Triendl, GM,
DataDirect Networks Japan. "It
demonstrates DDN’s understanding of the increasingly sophisticated requirements
of the professional film and video production industry, an understanding that
is reflected in the specialized products we build and deliver to our customers.
DDN is highly committed to the continued development of best-of-breed storage
solutions for the professional film and video production industry."
