PoINT Participates in Two Research Projects
SENSE and COOLSoftware
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 13, 2012 at 2:38 pmPoINT Software & Systems GmbH participates with different project partners in the research projects SENSE and COOLSoftware.
The purpose of the research project SENSE (intelligent Storage and Exploration of large documeNt Sets) is to develop a management system administrating big data volumes throughout their total life cycle and optimizing workflows by semantic data analysis. The focus is laid on the continuous use of semantic analysis results ranging from intelligent resource saving storage until context optimized application.

The project COOLSoftware is aimed at energy efficiency in distributed computer environments through dynamic re-configuration of the software architecture by using intelligent resource manager, especially for distributed storage systems, and to test these experimentally.
"R&D are central elements for PoINT for ensuring the sustainability of existing product lines and for offering customers innovative solutions long-term", explains Bernd Klee, CEO of PoINT. "Therefore we are joining different research projects like SENSE or COOLSoftware and work together with renowned universities, like TU Dresden, which was recently announced as elite university."
PoINT applies its know-how in the field of storage management within the project SENSE. Especially the application of semantic meta data by data storage in a tiered storage architecture is mainly focused. In this project procedures and methods are designed by which data can be stored automatically in the optimal storage layer according to their value and their application context. This improves the performance of the total system and simultaneously saves energy and storage resources.
The aspect energy efficiency is the main topic of the research project COOLSoftware. Energy efficiency is becoming critical for companies as in future energy cost have to be considered stronger. Also in this project the know-how of PoINT in the field of storage management is an element in the research study.
The storage specialist thinks that applying the research results of both projects is an excellent basis for further development of its own products and especially for a faster availability of both innovations.
