The release features the ability to automatically and continuously backup unstructured SharePoint content, known as binary large objects (BLOBs), for organizations to backup content databases within minutes, instead of hours.

"StoragePoint 4.0 not only improves SharePoint performance and reduces storage costs, it will now simplify the backup and restore processes," said Phillip Miles, VP of business development, CTS. "Since StoragePoint dramatically reduces the size of SharePoint content databases and automatically backs up BLOBs, our customers can backup SharePoint quickly and meet their Recover Point Objectives. And because StoragePoint includes granular restore functionality that works with free, out-of-the-box backup tools, our customers no longer need to buy costly third-party backup tools."

Osterman Research reported in a recent survey that the average SharePoint content size is now 1.25TB and the cost of running SharePoint has increased 15% compared to 2011 based on this content growth. With StoragePoint 4.0, organizations are no longer forced to buy the most expensive, Tier 1 storage for their SharePoint content. Because the product externalizes BLOBs outside of the SQL Server database, organizations can put in place a cost-effective, tiered storage architecture that offloads up to 95% of SharePoint content and dramatically improves SharePoint performance.

The latest version of SharePoint provides granular, item-level restore capability that works with standard out of the box backup tools, removing the need to purchase complex and expensive third-party backup tools. These capabilities increase the speed of backup and recovery operations, while also exceeding the RTO and RPO service levels now required for most organizations.

By using StoragePoint 4.0 in conjunction with the new Metalogix Content Matrix 6, organizations can migrate and de-dupe legacy file shares into SharePoint at over 125GB per hour, 100 times faster than other SharePoint migration products. This gives organizations the ability to reduce its content storage sprawl and further lower TCO.

"It is time for organizations to stop squandering their Tier 1 content storage, increase upload and indexing speeds and meet recovery service levels. That is what we set out do with the release of StoragePoint 4.0, the #1 SharePoint RBS solution in the market," said Steven Murphy, CEO, Metalogix. "Storage costs are skyrocketing out of proportion to the utilization of content and lengthy backup times increase the risk of serious data loss in case of outages. With StoragePoint 4.0, Metalogix has developed a high-performance product for organizations to reduce content storage costs while meeting content findabililty and recovery mandates."

Metalogix will be showing demonstrations of StoragePoint 4.0 and Content Matrix 6 during the SharePoint Conference 2012 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV from Sunday, Nov. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 15.
