Whiptail Puts Data in Motion With Racerunner OS Update

Replication functionality enabling heterogeneous storage

WHIPTAIL Technologies Inc. introduces a data replication functionality that enables heterogeneous storage to be used with the release of RACERUNNER 4.1.1, the latest version of the core software that underpins the company’s INVICTA and ACCELA performance storage arrays.

The INVICTA and ACCELA all-flash storage arrays provide read and write
performance for hundreds of customers worldwide. RACERUNNER 4.1.1 adds
the ability for a user to replicate their data to a non-WHIPTAIL target
array for increased flexibility, security and availability.

"Data replication has long been a headache for IT managers, because it forced them to buy two of everything," commented Brian Feller, VP and GM WHIPTAIL EMEA. "We’re
changing the game with Open Target by allowing our arrays to replicate
to a variety of different targets. Of course users will be able to
replicate to a second WHIPTAIL array, but they’ll also have the option
of moving their data to a non-WHIPTAIL array
."

The release also adds VMware support for vStorage API for Array
Integration (VAAI) and vCenter Server. VAAI enables organisations to
offload specific storage operations to compliant storage hardware,
reducing CPU and memory use and storage fabric bandwidth consumption.
Processing power is then redistributed to other tasks, enabling the
platform to do more with less. vCenter Server enables centralised
management of vSphere virtual infrastructure, so that IT administrators
can ensure security and availability, simplify day-to-day tasks, and
reduce the complexity of managing a virtual infrastructure.

WHIPTAIL’s Open API also gets updated with this release, and enables
customers to leverage enhanced functionality from remote applications,
and technical users to manage arrays from other management software.

Feller added: "Our customers know what our storage arrays can do, but
the new RACERUNNER adds real value and adds real flexibility to the
data centre. This is far more than your basic storage OS; it gives users
the freedom to move data where they want it, when they want it, with
near-undetectable latency, and that’s got to be the holy grail for any
modern business
."

RACERUNNER 4.1.1 will be available to ACCELA and INVICTA customers in early November.
