French National Broadcaster M6 Chooses MatrixStore From Object Matrix
To protect production assets of file-based workflows
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 5, 2012 at 3:01 pmObject Matrix Limited announces that M6 (RTL Group – Bertelsmann), the commercial French national broadcaster, has chosen its MatrixStore to be an integral part of their file-based workflows.
M6 Group has recently renewed its internal infrastructure for its post-production entities. It was particularly attracted to an Object Matrix solution based on the need to implement a secure and performant storage platform.
"As part of the overall reorganisation of our post-production units, we wanted to update our storage platform and processes. M6 previously faced problems managing the growing volume of files, laboriously backing up content to tape or performing manual backups to unsecure hard drives. Taking the advice of our systems integrator, we modestly increased our Avid Unity ISIS production storage and focused on implementing a storage tier that could alleviate the burden on the production storage by providing a secure parking repository," stated Mathias Béjanin, director engineering and maintenance M6.
To design and implement this new workflow, the broadcaster turned to Eliote, a Paris-based systems integrator. It proposed the implementation of a nearline storage platform to complement the existing Avid Unity ISIS and recommended MatrixStore.
It has the advantage of providing native integrations with incumbent MAM or PAM technology such as the popular InterConnect plugin for Avid Interplay.
"The InterConnect application provides seamless integration with the existing Interplay: a simple drag / drop operation can archive or restore media without stopping the production system. The initial storage capacity of the MatrixStore cluster is 40 terabytes providing protection for around 1500 hours of XDCAM HD footage," says Fernando Carvalho, CTO of Eliote.
The capabilities of the Object Matrix solution, which is now in operation, proved two fold: MatrixStore is meeting the storage challenges in accordance with expectations, and it offers guarantees of security and preservation of the media.
"Previously the process of securing content included manually copying video tapes. Securing the media with MatrixStore ensures our workflows are more efficient and we feel secure in the knowledge that our data is safe," said Frank Martin, director of Digital Operations M6.
He concludes: "Integration into our existing infrastructure is remarkably simple and the daily operation is extremely intuitive, after a short training session our team can use the InterConnect archive application for Avid Interplay with ease. Based on this and our experience with the MatrixStore I would definitely recommend this solution."
Object Matrix and IVORY (Object Matrix representative for Southern Europe) will be showing their solutions on stand E43 at the upcoming SATIS Expo (13 to 15 November) at Halle Freyssinet in Paris.
