Openwave Messaging Resells Scality Ring

Openwave Messaging, Inc., provider of universal messaging software solutions, and Scality announced a new strategic alliance whereby, Openwave Messaging will bundle and resell Scality’s RING Organic stateless storage as part of its Universal Messaging Suite.

Stateless infrastructure provides an increase in reliability while decreasing operations cost for large scale messaging systems. The system architecture uses an active-active design, with no single point of failure. With a no single point of failure implementation, hardware failures are automatically compensated for by the software, which automatically reallocates resources on the fly. The automatic shifting and rebalancing of the load eliminates the need for urgent action and crisis management that would occur on a hardware failure in a different architecture.

Time Warner Cable Inc. selected the joint offering to ensure its messaging environment would be able to grow and scale dynamically with its business, and to ensure HA and zero system downtime.

With Organic RING, the storage is deployed on commodity server hardware, which reduces the cost of the messaging platform. Scality’s organic design allows for hardware refresh when hardware reaches the end of its life. Instead of the traditional process of staging a new system and going through a complete migration, RING software handles technology refresh by automatically incorporating new servers and retiring those marked for removal.

Furthermore, RING constantly rebalances resources so that there are no points of congestion, and as a result the system does not require manual balancing for performance management. The design scales linearly, so that mailbox growth or user growth can be handled without major investment or redesign.
