T3Media Implemented Oracle StorageTek Library
To handle fluctuations in data, which can scale to about 50TB/day
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 24, 2012 at 2:52 pmT3Media, Inc.,
provider of cloud-based video management and licensing services, has
implemented Oracle’s StorageTek tape solutions to support its growing
business.
T3Media offers cloud-based storage, access and licensing for enterprise
video libraries such as BBC Motion Gallery, Paramount Pictures, Sony
Pictures Entertainment, National Geographic, The New York Times, and the
NCAA.
On any given day, the company ingests data from 40 different sites and
delivers thousands of files to hundreds of customers around the world.
Oracle’s StorageTek tape technology has provided T3Media the flexibility
to handle fluctuations in the amount of data, which can scale to about
50TB a day.
T3Media uses Oracle’s StorageTek SL8500 modular library systems with StorageTek T10000C tape drives managed by Sun Storage Archive Manager software to manage data across two facilities.
As T3Media expanded its business from clip-oriented offerings to
long-form storage, access, and licensing solutions, the 5TB capacity of
Oracle’s StorageTek T10000C tape drives helped the company grow its
business while leveraging its existing investment in StorageTek SL8500
libraries.
The StorageTek T10000C tape drives have also helped T3Media save
significant amounts by enabling the company quintuple the size of their
libraries in place by installing new drives.
The longevity of T10000 T2 data cartridges also allows to migrate data
on an-eight to ten-year cadence, as opposed to the typical two- to
three-year cycle recommended with other formats, saving time and money
over the 30+ year life of their data.
Sun Storage Archive Manager simplifies storage infrastructure by
automating the management of multiple tiers of storage and DR across its
two facilities, and enabling its small IT staff to deliver global
client-access to stored content via the cloud at any time.
"With Oracle’s StorageTek tape technology, T3Media has been able to
grow its business and take advantage of completely new opportunities
with tape investments we started making seven years ago," said Mark Lemmons, CTO, T3Media. "With
the massive capacity of Oracle’s StorageTek T10000C tape drives in our
StorageTek SL8500 tape libraries all managed by Sun Storage Archive
Manager, complexity is minimized. Our applications are accessing files,
and I don’t have to worry about where they are or whether they’re on
tape, with Sun Storage Archive Manager, it just works."
