Imation Increased RDX Cartridge Capacity From 1TB to 1.5TB, Following Tandberg

Next step probably being 2TB

Imation Corp. announced the availability of 1.5TB RDX cartridges used within RDX removable hard disk systems, enables SMBs to manage growth in digital content and manage data retention, retrieval, recovery and transfer.

Though a company’s data is considered its most valuable asset, many SMBs do not have a data protection strategy in place. Imation Scalable Storage solutions featuring RDX media are built to deliver backup, recovery and archiving. Imation has effectively increased the capacity of all RDX-enabled solutions, including its storage arrays and back p appliances, to better enable SMBs to deal with digital data growth by investing in new 1.5TB cartridges.

"Imation RDX media offers all of the advantages of disk-to-disk storage, including high performance, reliability, plus the portability and endurance of tape," said Bill Schilling, director of marketing, Scalable Storage, Imation. "As more value-added resellers realize the benefits of RDX and deploy RDX-enabled storage solutions within client environments, the technology is quickly becoming regarded as the ‘go-to’ storage media for SMBs looking for affordable scalability, reliability and ease-of-use."

Imation previously introduced new storage solutions that feature RDX media and appliances, and storage software from ISVs. Most recently, the company launched an archive solution that combines QStar Archive manager software with the RDX A8 Hard Disk Storage Array to deliver an active archive solution for SMBs and work groups. When stocked with 1.5TB cartridges, Imation RDX A8 offers simultaneous access to up to 12TB of data storage.

RDX media is now available in 320GB, 500GB, 1TB and 1.5TB capacities and is both forward and backward compatible. Cartridges and Scalable Storage solutions are available through the company’s network of channel and OEM partners.
