Avago Technologies Boosts Application Performance “by 6X”
Using GridIron TurboCharger acceleration appliance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 17, 2012 at 3:11 pmGridIron Systems, Inc. announced that Avago Technologies has deployed its OneAppliance TurboCharger to boost productivity of its Oracle-based Business Intelligence infrastructure.
Avago experienced faster response times in its entire underlying storage infrastructure that resulted in improved SLAs within hours of installing TurboCharger. In contrast to adding storage arrays or tuning applications to improve performance, Avago experienced zero downtime during the installation.
Avago is a supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications. With over 6,500 products, 40,000 customers and a multi-channel sales and fulfillment network, the company relies on immediate access to its big data to maintain the competitive edge it has established over five decades in the semiconductor market.
Like many companies, Avago’s proliferating data sources and growing datasets have steadily stretched the capabilities of its underlying storage infrastructure. For a company with a spotless record for delivering on SLAs, slowdowns in business intelligence and critical applications were unacceptable. Avago selected GridIron TurboCharger based on its easy, non-disruptive deployment and its ability to transparently accelerate storage performance without the need to interrupt or modify existing systems or applications.
"The GridIron implementation has been straightforward and works seamlessly in our environment," said Alan Davidson, senior director of Global IT at Avago. "We are getting significant performance improvements across all our applications without tuning any code."
Avago deployed two GridIron TurboCharger appliances into its SAN in an active-active cluster. Transparently sitting between the storage and the servers, the appliances continuously record the data access patterns of applications, including Avago’s Oracle, Hyperion, planning and reporting applications.
TurboCharger predictively caches the data that is critical to application performance in its RAM and flash tiers and makes it available to applications at micro-seconds latencies. Avago has realized performance gains of up to 600% in critical reporting functions. With the ability in place to seamlessly scale its IT infrastructure as needs grow without changing its existing environment, Avago predicts that it will continue to save money by extending the life of existing storage arrays and the ability to expand capacity by adding lower cost drives.
"When organizations rely on data to make fast, accurate decisions, performance is crucial but disruption is not an option," said Franklyn Jones, VP of Marketing at GridIron. "GridIron’s TurboCharger is the first and only solution that brings high performance storage access to existing environments without disrupting operations. We are happy that Avago is experiencing valuable performance gains from our data acceleration solutions."
