Storage Fusion Virtualize

To analyze storage estate at array level

Storage Fusion Ltd unveiled two solutions that will help IT professionals change the way they manage their storage.

Storage Fusion Virtualize is a new functionality within Storage Fusion Analyze, a resource already used by enterprises and partners including GlassHouse and Unisys, to analyse the storage estate at array level. This new addition gives a holistic, seamless end-to-end view – providing more complete and comprehensive data to support decision-making and helping to avoid risk. For the storage pre-sales professional, it augments the value of the storage assessment.

Delivered as a SaaS service, it helps IT administrators analyse storage at server level to work out exactly how much capacity they are using and where storage is being wasted, saving time and money. In addition, this increased visibility across the entire SAN will allow users to forecast their future storage needs much more accurately, eliminating over-purchasing and provisioning, and making budgets work smarter.

In contrast to most analysis solutions, Virtualize offers visibility across any vendors’ equipment and combines server and SAN reporting. As a result it provides clarity and understanding of the complexity and risks of host allocations.

Other benefits of Virtualize include:

  • Anway to calculate the ROI of moving to thin provisioning
  • Understanding of the storage tier and protection levels for a disk or file system
  • Support of chargeback processes to avoid supplying applications with infinite amounts of storage
  • Collection of more powerful business intelligence data

Storage Fusion operations director Peter White said: "The ability to analyse the entire storage estate with a single tool has many immediate and long-term benefits, especially for users who are looking to deploy new applications or technologies or increase SAN performance. With a single web-based interface Storage Fusion Virtualize provides complete transparency, requires no training, is fast and easy to deploy and delivers immediate results. For consultants, it also extends the value of the pre-sales storage assessment."

The second launch relates to seven new dashboards within Storage Fusion Analyze. Through a granular view of the storage environment these tools give an instant at-a-glance view of the whole SAN and present the results of the analysis in an easy-to-read format.

Aimed at pre-sales professionals, the new dashboards provide benefits and advantages when it comes to retaining customers and winning new business, such as a reduction in the time required to interpret the analysis results, making proposals quicker to prepare. The information offered by the dashboards can be used to create trusted, compelling assessments to present to both technical and non-technical users.

Endorsed by leading vendors, technology providers and enterprises, Storage Fusion Analyze is being used for different types of projects including:

  • SAN assessments
  • Capacity planning
  • Virtualisation and thin provisioning
  • Metrics analysis and trending
  • Vendor rationalisation
  • SAN health checks
  • Internal charge-back
  • Cloud migration
  • Configuration exceptions
  • Asset tracking
  • SAN audits
  • Stage reclaim
  • Tiering
  • Data centre migration
  • Technology refreshes

Storage Fusion Virtualize and the new dashboards are available from the company and its partners.

Since its formation in 2008, Storage Fusion software has analysed over 3,000 arrays.
