Budd Van Lines, a nationwide independent household goods carrier, recently saw
a surge in storage demand resulting from the company’s switch to 1080p
security cameras, designed to better improve freight security and employee
safety.

Using Nexenta’s OpenStorage technology, Budd Van Lines increased its video
storage capacity from 1TB to 84TB, its VMware capacity from 11TB to 32TB and
its replication and archive capacity from 0TB to 32TB
– yielding 148TB of raw
data in total. This capacity accommodated the new cameras, improved its I/O ratio by nearly 300%, and established an off-site backup
location to keep the company online in the event of a disaster.

"Before we discovered Nexenta,
choosing a SAN was a shot in the dark,
" said Douglas
Soltesz, CIO at Budd Van Lines. "Being
software-based, Nexenta empowered us to rigorously test their product in the
lab first and become comfortable with the solution and its features. Now we
cannot believe all the places in which it fits.
"

Nexenta’s OpenStorage solutions solve the storage challenges of big data by
empowering customers to grow and manage their storage capacity cost
effectively, while ensuring all of their information is secure today and
into the future. With NexentaStor, Budd Van Lines benefits from higher
performing storage management, replication, DR, and the ability to use in-house
hardware to make the solution cost efficient.

"Budd Van Lines came to us with a
common problem – big data growth due to the introduction of new applications
that are improving their business, but straining their IT systems,
"
said Evan Powell, CEO, Nexenta. "NexentaStor,
with inline compression and deduplication, is the only software-based,
enterprise-class unified storage solution capable of solving their video
storage challenges as well as their private cloud, replication, and DR needs
all on one system by providing a combination of block and file access. No other
solution on the market today comes close to offering that combination of power
and flexibility.
