HP Data Protector 7 Protects VMware vCloud Director 4.1
Offering within Autonomy Data Protection suite
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 1, 2012 at 3:16 pmAutonomy Corp., an HP company, announced a feature enhancement to HP Data Protector 7 that delivers integrated security for VMware vCloud Director 5.1, providing automated, policy-based protection for cloud environments.
HP Data Protector 7 is an offering within Autonomy’s Data Protection suite. It provides policy-based data protection for an array of configurations within a virtual datacenter. Built based on Autonomy IDOL’s ability to understand the meaning of information, it allows organizations to control how often they back up their data, as well as how much data to retain and store.
The solution enables service providers to offer flexible protection options within multi-tenant cloud environments. Organizations that use VMware vSphere and seek to maximize storage efficiency for VM backup can leverage HP Data Protector 7 to deduplicate data anywhere – at the application source, backup server, or target appliance – and centrally manage the deduplicated data movement across the enterprise for DR.
"Losing mission critical data can cost a business months of productivity," said David Jones, CEO, Data Protection and Emerging Technologies, Autonomy. "Customers who have chosen to embrace data center virtualization can now gain access to the industry’s most advanced backup solution that guards against data loss or corruption and delivers automated, intelligent protection to address the dynamic nature of virtual machine and VMware vApp provisioning with VMware vCloud director 5.1."
Using HP Data Protector 7, customers can eliminate protection gaps found in cloud-based deployments. Traditional data protection solutions fail to understand how much data to backup and the level of data protection required for the diverse types of data that reside within an organization. This creates costly and ineffective storage expenses for organizations. Further, with HP Data Protector 7, customers can reduce the risk of data loss as business critical backup policies are automatically applied to new virtual machines within a virtual data center. And with HP StoreOnce Catalyst replication feature enabled in HP Data Protector 7, customers can backup at speeds of up to 100TB per hour, which is three times faster than the leading industry storage alternative. (based on HP internal comparative analysis of publicly available data from major competitors)
"VMware vCloud director 5.1 will give organizations the ability to provision software-defined datacenter services for consumption rapidly," said Gary Green, VP, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware. "Paired with HP Data Protector, organizations can feel confident that their stored data is secure."
Autonomy’s Data Protection suite includes HP Data Protector 7, as well as LiveVault for managed cloud-based, server data protection, storage and management, and Connected Backup, a data backup and recovery solution for desktops, laptops and access to protected data through mobile devices. Data Protector, LiveVault and Connected Backup are also part of the Autonomy Protect suite of solutions for archiving, compliance, eDiscovery, enterprise content management, and information governance.
