SM Data Signs OEM Agreement With NetApp

StoreData RAID DRAC + supporting up to 384 drives per system

SM Data, S.A., a
Spanish company specialising in storage networks, has signed an OEM agreement
with NetApp, Inc. for the NetApp
E-Series platforms.

The new SM Data StoreData RAID DRAC product line will be based on two
controllers with different specifications and performance. Both are excellent
for applications requiring performance and capacity such as digital
archival, cloud computing, big data, HD or digital cinema 2K or 4K
post-production, industrial CCTV installations, HPC applications and
disk-to-disk backup.

StoreData RAID DRAC + is the high end model, providing high transfer
rate and scalability supporting up to 384 drives per system that represents 1PB. With redundant controller configuration by default and with host
connectivity using 4 or 8 port, 8Gb FC or dual port 40Gb IB. Memory is 12GB
per controller and backplane is SAS 6GBit.

The second model, StoreData RAID DRAC, can be configured with single or
redundant controller with dual 6Gbt SAS ports by default and with an
optional connectivity options: dual 6Gb SAS ports for a total of four ports,
quad 8Gb FC ports and quad 1GBit or dual 10Gb iSCSI ports. Memory is 2GB
per controller upgradeable to 4GB. System can support up to 192 drives.

Both versions are available in 60-, 24- or 12-bay enclosures with a modular,
scalable architecture.The high density 60-bay
enclosure reduces rack space by 60% when compared to 12-bay drive
enclosures, allowing 180TB capacity in 4U of rack space.

Drives are accommodated in 5 horizontal drawers with 12 drives per drawer.
Drives remain online when drawer is extended for service. It supports 6Gb
7.200rpm 3,5" SAS drives, 15.000 rpm 2,5" drives and SSD. Measuring 82.55cm deep can be installed into a standard industry cabinet.

Redundant power supplies provides up to 10% reduction in
power and cooling.

Included with these new product offerings is the NetApp SANtricity software
that brings integration and industry storage software features. Some of the
features included are dynamic disk pools that replaces traditional RAID
technology, thin provisioning, snapshots, volume copy and remote replication
and IP mirroring.

Jordi Sabiol, SM Data GM, explains: "After more than 20 years
delivering StoreData RAID storage systems, we determined that the NetApp
E-Series platform was critical in meeting our customers big data project
demands. The scalability, density and outstanding sustained transfer rate
allows us to provide our customers with the most cost-effective, high
performance and scalable solution. The new StoreData RAID DRAC models will
allow our network of partners to expand their reach into the Big Data market.
"

"Our E-Series product line provides
an incredibly powerful platform for addressing the most demanding storage
needs. As we expand our footprint into more big data applications, such as HPC and rich media markets, we continue to build
strategic relationships with partners that offer both leading solution
knowledge and great understanding of their local markets. SM Data provides the technological
expertise, market reach and penetration in Spain. This is a great example of
maximizing the strengths of both companies to drive innovative, new offerings
to the customer,
" said Juan de Zulueta, VP, NetApp OEM EMEA.
