ReclaiMe Data Recovery Recovers From Failed Microsoft Storage Spaces
To be available in 1Q13
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 19, 2012 at 2:57 pmBased in Volgograd, Russia, ReclaiMe believes that Microsoft Corp.‘s innovation – Storage Spaces – will become popular among users because there are useful features for effective management of disk space, most notable being a thin provisioning feature.
"People think that to recover data from a Storage Spaces volume they need to use typical data recovery software. Unfortunately, it is not true," said Elena Pakhomova, senior developer of ReclaiMe. "Storage Spaces is an absolutely new and quite complex technique to organize data. So, data recovery specialists are faced with not an easy job to do, namely to develop recovery algorithms for Storage Spaces. A while ago our company started to work on this. We consider that we have already achieved some success having created a proof-of-concept prototype."
When developing ReclaiMe Storage Spaces Recovery, designers encountered quite a number of difficulties. One of them is the computational complexity of the recovery process, manifesting itself in some severe system requirements. For example, a minimum of memory requirement is 2GB plus 512MB per every disk from the failed Storage Spaces pool.
Storage Spaces Recovery will recover data when a volume or an entire Storage Spaces pool is deleted.
Despite the fact that the proof-of-concept prototype is already available, the official release of Storage Spaces Recovery is planned for the first quarter of 2013. A lot of things still should be done, including user interface design and extensive testing on the real-world cases.
