CA ARCserve r16 Beats CommVault Simpana 9

In comparative review by Network Testing Labs

CA Technologies announced that CA
ARCserve has topped CommVault Simpana 9
in every category of a recent comparative review again earning the Network Testing Labs (NTL) World Class Award for best data protection and BC.

The review, commissioned by CA Technologies,
examined the capabilities of ARCserve and Simpana around
image-based backup, file-based backup, replication/HA and usability.

"CA ARCserve r16 is the
clear winner of this review,
" said Barry Nance, president of Network
Testing Labs, who has evaluated thousands of hardware and software products for
publications like Computerworld, BYTE Magazine, Government Computer News, PC
Magazine, Network Computing
, and Network World. "It is our choice as the better answer for organizations needing quality
backup/restore as well as maximum high availability and replication."

Review highlights:
Unlike Commvault’s SnapProtect, ARCserve’s image-based backup functionality
was ‘easy to install, a breeze to
use, relatively inexpensive to buy and highly protective of your data,

according to the reviewer.

In evaluating synthetic backup capabilities, the reviewer noted: "Simpana users must periodically
create a new full backup,
" while ARCserve’s Infinite Incremental
(I2 Technology) "does not have this
limitation
" thereby helping reduce storage requirements and costs.

ARCserve was 37% faster than Simpana to restore data and resume
an online transaction processing business application in the testing scenario.
Additionally, the review highlighted ARCserve’s Virtual Standby feature,
which further speeds the recovery of data and services, a capability not found
in Simpana.

In file-based backup functionality, ARCserve topped Simpana
"in its reporting, its
infrastructure visualization and its central management console.
" The
reviewer also said: "Simpana 9
exhibits a modicum of SRM capability. In stark contrast, CA ARCserve’s topology
map clearly and intuitively displays a customer’s infrastructure.
"

For businesses that have Windows, Linux or UNIX servers and
applications, ARCserve provides HA with continuous real-time replication,
system and application monitoring, automatic and pushbutton failover and
push-button failback. The reviewer noted that although Simpana offers basic
replication, "it lacks CA ARCserve’s
feature-rich, mature ability to replicate, monitor and automatically fail over
critical servers.
"

"For data protection, customers are
increasingly turning to vendors who can provide reasonably priced solutions
that are not only feature-complete, but also high-performing,
" said
Steve Fairbanks, VP, data management, CA. "This latest review by NTL effectively
demonstrates both the broad functionality and superior performance of CA
ARCserve, which provides comprehensive data protection valued in a way that
aligns with the needs of the business.
